Borderlands Bug Not GameSpy Related; May Not Exist For GameRanger Players
GameRanger just announced that Borderlands (360/PC/PS3) has been added to the matchmaking service. This brings the total number of supported games to 600. Not too shabby.
Out of curiosity I quickly asked Scott Kevill, the company’s president, if the service was marred by the same multiplayer bug currently pestering 360, PS3 and PC gamers. To be entirely honest, I assumed GameRanger would be, but according to him it isn’t.
“From what I understand, that’s related to storing/retrieving character stats on GameSpy servers, so that shouldn’t affect GR play” Kevill told me on Twitter.
I contacted Gearbox Software for comment and Steve Gibson, the VP of Marketing, informed me that GameSpy isn’t at fault. “The 360 version has the same bug, and it doesn’t use GameSpy” (Sony uses GameSpy technology to help run the PlayStation Network).
Digging further, GameRanger may still be safe from the bug, because it does not use the online game code at all. Instead the connection is rerouted through the LAN settings, thus accessing character data saved on the client side.
The bug continues to elude Gearbox Software, so play it safe or be weary about online play. Time will tell if GameRanger is a safe alternative for PC gamers or not.

Priceless when a game’s developer cant figure out a bug in its own game

i was really disappointed with borderlands it was my most anticipated title for this year but it let me down so much.
picked it up day of release and was as giddy as a school girl, as soon as i got home shoved it into my ps3 got installing.
once it was done got into the game, got up to the part just after you choose your character and got a message that the game data is corrupt i need to delete and reinstall the game.
ok, wired, ive played 50+ ps3 games and that has NEVER happened to me but anyway i delete it and reinstall.
and AGAIN! 5 times in a row it happens, now im really starting to see red.
so i ring sony and ask WTF is going on, they reply i dunno we dont make the game, get into contact with the developers.
so i hope onto gearboxes forms and ask them WTF, and they say its my PS3.
ammmmmmmm guys, can we please make up our fucking mind?
anyway i went back to it, installed it for the SIXTH! time and somehow it worked.
spent 10 hours playing it, turned it off, went back the next day put another 10 hours in turned it off, than today turned it on and my save data is corrupt.
WTF???????????????
again, ive played 50+ PS3 games and ive NEVER EVER EVER had that happen to me,so i contact gearbox and again they say its my ps3.
so i start a new game, put a few hours into it, turn it off had lunch, watched some TV than came back and AGAIN MY FUCKING SAVE DATA IS CORRUPT!!!!!!!!!
i can not believe this, seriously how the fuck did this get past QA?
how does a game get released that has so many bugs?
this has seriously pissed me off.
fuck you gearbox studios you owe me 110 bucks now, and i am never ever ever buying another game of yours ever again.
releasing games like this should be illegal and incur a penalty of jail!
im sick to death of blowing 100 bucks + on a game that does not work.

It was only discovered a few days ago, I am sure Gearbox will get it (or risk losing a MP base). That being said, Microsoft Office has had the same image dropping bug in it since it went multiplatform…

That certainly sounds like an awful experience. When you were able to play the game how did you like it? Sounds like you put some serious time in to it over a few days.

brilliant, i thought it was a great game.
i loved the art style and the enemy style, though the enemies were a little repetitive.
the first few hours all your fighting are strog and sometimes those miniature exploding guys.
all they needed to do was polish the game to a tee, and remove the repetitive enemies and it would of kicked the crap out of fallout 3.
and thats saying allot because fallout 3 was my favorite game from last year.
its a real shame to see all that potential spoiled because of the bugs.
one thing ive been begging for latley is a rating system.
like every single game that comes out, is tested to make sure its a quality title, any game with severe bugs gets knocked down to half price.
its hard to tell these days if a game is going to be good, or crap.
lots of people i know have bought borderlands over uncharted 2 because they could only buy one and there massive RPG fans.
if said rating system was in place they could of got both because borderlands would of been knocked down to half price.
i just dont see how its fair for gearbox studios to charge the same price naughty dog is.
what do you think?
is borderlands worth the same amount of money as uncharted 2?

I do agree with you, there are tons of QA issues that should have been addressed.
I’m going to be doing a review on the title for TGR once I complete the main campaign, so I don’t want to spoil anything. But the short of it is that it’s a solid game that needed some additional polish to make it a great game. Still worth the money in the state it is in though.

I don’t doubt this game has a few bugs here and there I mean what games nowadays dont? But Ive had it since it was released and haven’t run into any problems whatsoever, as for the bugs you’ve run into I havnt heard of anyone else that has had such a hell of a time getting the game to work and on a console. I’ve got it on the pc and I was amazed with the lack of bugs it had as most pc games are shit upon release. all in all my experience has been flawless (other than a little lag online) hope you get it working as well as I have
